McManus Medal and Achievement Awards Committee Chair
Deadline extended to:  January 31, 2012
Alumni Achievement Awards General Criteria:
  1. Active/Retired member (dues current) or Life Member of the Nursing Education Alumni Association (NEAA);
  2. Holds an advanced degree from Teachers College;
  3. Is a respected nursing leader in the specific area for which she/he is being nominated;
  4. Has made significant contributions to the nursing profession;
  5. Has national reputation as evidenced by significant publications, consultation, service activities for national nursing organizations, and other recognition.
Required Information for Nominations:
  1. Nominator’s letter of support and two additional support letters;
  2. Curriculum vitae of nominee;
  3. Nominator’s contact information (Name, complete address, home and work phone, e-mail address).
If possible, please send via express mail so that it can be tracked and delivery by the deadline is assured. Applications must be received by January 31, 2012

Criteria for specific NEAA Achievement Awards

The R. Louise McManus Medal
The R. Louis McManus Medal is given in recognition of long standing contributions of a distinguished nature to the nursing profession. It is named in honor of one of nursing's earliest leaders and one of TC's most distinguished faculty members and chairs, R. Louise McManus.  It is the highest award given by the NEAA. Nominations for this award must meet the following criteria:
1.     
Holds an advanced degree (master's or doctorate) in nursing;
2.     
Has provided a consistent, outstanding record of leadership within and to the broad nursing community;
3.     
Has consistently made contributions to the profession through publications, research, leadership in professional organizations, and excellence in education, practice or administration;
4.     
Has consistently made contributions to or acted to support the Department of Nursing Education at TC;
5.     
Is a respected leader in the field.
The Nursing Scholarship and Research Award
1.    
Holds an advanced degree (masters or doctorate) in nursing;
2.    
Holds at least one graduate degree from TC;
3.    
Is implementing a clear program of research;
4.    
Has influenced the profession of nursing through her/his scholarly efforts;
5.    
Has received research grants, published research, and/or given research‑based presentations related to her/his program of research.
The Nursing Education Award
1.    
Holds an advanced degree (masters or doctorate) in nursing;
2.    
Holds at least one graduate degree from TC;
3.    
Documents excellence and innovation as a teacher;
4.    
Has made a significant, unique contribution to the education of nurses;
5.    
Engages in scholarly activities related to education and disseminates those efforts (e.g., through publications, presentations, consultations).
The Nursing Practice Award
1.   
Holds an advanced degree (master's or doctorate) in nursing;
2.   
Holds at least one graduate degree from TC;
3.   
Documents excellence and innovation as a clinician;
4.   
Has made a significant, unique contribution to nursing practice;
5.   
Engages in scholarly activities related to nursing practice and disseminates those efforts (e.g., through publications, presentations, consultations).
The Nursing Service Award
1.    
Holds an advanced degree (master's or doctorate) in nursing;
2.    
Holds at least one graduate degree from TC;
3.    
Documents excellence and innovation in administering the delivery of nursing services;
4.    
Has made a significant, unique con­tribution to the administration of nursing services or the delivery of nursing care.
The Leadership in Professional and Allied Organizations Award
1.    
Holds an advanced degree (master's or doctorate) in nursing;
2.    
Holds at least one graduate degree from TC;
3.    
Documents leadership roles in professional nursing organizations;
4.    
Has benefited nursing through her/his roles in professional and allied organizations.
